Infosys and India: Technology, Money, and Politics

This video was done by Los Angeles Public Library about India growing technology in the Business forums. The library has business owners who are prominent leaders, entrepreneurs, of the world to speak about their business, to students, to Los Angeles business community. Nandan Nilekani was the speaker from Bangalore India. He is co-founder of Infosys, former CEO and co- chairman of Infosys. Union Bank made their largest investment to be working with Infosys to replace their entire coreforms of their baking platforms for the next four years to help them at the fore forms to advance technologically in the a US banking. Nandan Nilekani book explained impact politics and economics in India over times. India has the second largest reservoir of skills labor in the world. This is one of the reason businesses around the world are attracted to India when they go outsourcing, to competing in the growing technological economy. In addition, India have two million graduates English speaking in each year, which help English countries employees Indian employees to deal with their speaking products, services, and to their customers. Human capital technological graduate increase about 300 yearly, which fill the demand for that labor. However, at the same time, the India has conflict with the cast, religion and class systems, which make it little hard to be like other super power nations.
The author answered some questions about his book. He mentioned that he always travel all over the world. During his travel people would ask him questions he could not answer the entire question about India, not only Business. He decided to learn more for himself and to be able to explain to people who want to learn about India, and to the people he will be doing business with.  He wanted to give holistic view of India by explaining it through median of ideas.  The author spoke about what division in India form very rich to the very poor, religion, north to south India,  cast systems, which he believe is done by the manipulation of the  political system to divide Indians for political gain. For this, in his book he did interviews to hear people’s views, and concerns, spoke to leaders, politicians. Nandan mentioned that poor Indians send their children to private school, because they are not satisfied with the public school, and they believe their kids would have better live there, especially if they speak English. Indians got their Independence from England but kept the English language because that was the way their ruler communicated to them. Today English is not seen in India as it was seen before, due to today growing outsourcing to India.
Nandan believe India is similar to the US by regulation of the markets which needs to be done more. He believes India is going through it now. India has democracy like United States, but it is not exactly the same. He believes after India got it independence,  democracy  was giving in one day with  high illiteracy quickly,  unlike the  over 100 years got independences, women rights, African Americans right, made it hard to Indians. In 1947 India had leaders gave democracy, created their constitution.  But he believes now Indian people are ahead of it leaders. As for women number of women in politics, business has grown but it regional.
As for IT, 40 years ago computers were seen as job losing, seen as intimating, now it seen empowering in India, and importing computers were ban. However in the 1980s when the banking sector wanted automatic the banks they came up with reports before referring to them as computers. Today mobile phone computing systems, cloud computing has a great demand for new IT entrepreneurs of India. He believe Chinese has been better in execution then India with their will to do, investment, big project managements.
